For the FAA (USA), Dr John Pitts can perform all classes of medical, including initial medicals for First (for airline captain), Second (for commercial flying) or Third (for private flying).
If you have held a FAA medical before then you will be on the system. The best way to search is with an American social security number, but you can also search by date of birth or surname. The FAA will then email you the login details so that you can do your application online before you come.
If you have not then prior to attending for your medical, please create a free account with: FAA MedXPress (https://medxpress.faa.gov/)
The FAA will email you the login details so that you can do your application online before you come. Please email me the confirmation number or bring it to your appointment so that I can take over online to add the medical data.
Please make sure you fill all dates in U.S. format and enter your name and address exactly as you want it to appear on your medical certificate. Don’t forget to capitalise your name, street names, etc., or these will appear in lower case on your certificate.
A First Class FAA medical certificate is valid for 6 months.
A Second Class FAA medical certificate is valid for 1 year.
A Third Class FAA medical certificate is valid for 2 years; or 5 years if you are under 40 years old at the time of the medical.
All of the FAA validities are measured from the last day of the month.
Please note that breast and/ or genital examination is not part of the routine aviation medical examination. At your medical, Dr Pitts will ask you to confirm that testicular/breast self-examination using the method in the provided leaflets raises no concerns and will advise you that this should be carried out monthly ongoing.
The costs are:
- FAA medical examination, initial or renewal (if no ECG required): £290 +VAT
- FAA 1st Class initial or renewal medical examination with ECG: £370 + VAT
