Senior Consultant Occupational Physician and Aeromedical Examiner

Stuart qualified in medicine from the Royal Free Hospital (University of London) in 1990 with an intercalated B.Sc. During his undergraduate studies he also learned to fly with the RAF University Air Squadron. He undertook general professional training in internal medicine before moving to the Institute of Aviation Medicine (Farnborough) to undertake high altitude and other aircrew physiological/survival research. He then completed his Specialist training in Occupational Medicine in Southampton University Hospital while continuing aviation research and studies in sensory perception in people with upper limb disorders with the MRC. In 2000 he joined the UK CAA for the first time in medical certification during which time he gained the Diploma in Aviation Medicine. In 2002 he lead the Occupational Health Service for the London fire Brigade and the Capita Health Solutions as regional medical director, serving central and local government departments, banks and legal firms as well as other specialist companies.

Stuart then returned to the CAA to become the Head of the Occupational Health and Aeromedical Centre, followed by positions as Head of Certification and Oversight, Head of Aeromedical Safety Systems and Emerging Technologies and finally Medical regulatory Policy. Stuart left the
CAA in 2022 as Deputy Chief Medical Officer to become Medical Director of Qatar Airways responsible for primary care, occupational health, clinical psychology and aviation medicine services.
